I've spent years as a graphic designer, and picked up lettering in early 2026. But type design had always felt daunting, which is honestly what made it interesting. I wanted to push into a skill set I'd never touched, and see if it was something I could actually pull off.
What followed was a deep dive into the process of type design: research, sketches, vectorizing every letter, testing it in real use, kerning, and exporting something that actually works as a font. Along the way, I rebuilt more than I expected to. At one point I adjusted the width on a parent letter and had to redo a chunk of work I thought was already done. And more than once, a first pass just wasn't as dialed in as it needed to be. This meant going back in and refining things a lot more than I'd planned for, especially on a project that was a sprint with a hard deadline.
The real doubt was whether I could make something with some personality - not just a working typeface, but one with some character to it.
Typing it out for the first time and seeing it hold together was a genuinely proud moment. It's not perfect. But it's got personality in spades, and that was the whole point.
